MLB & ASMI to Host Joint Workshop This June
As the 2026 season gets underway, the focus across professional baseball is not only on performance between the lines, but also on the continued advancement of care behind the scenes. Athletic trainers, physicians, and performance staff play a critical role in keeping athletes healthy, available, and performing at their best. Investing in the next generation of sports medicine professionals is essential to sustaining that standard—and this June, a unique opportunity will do exactly that.
Major League Baseball and American Sports Medicine Institute are partnering to host the ASMI–MLB Baseball Medicine Workshop at the Bruno Conference Center in Birmingham, Alabama, a premier educational event designed specifically for students and early-career professionals pursuing a path in sports medicine.
This collaborative workshop represents a meaningful step forward in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application at the highest levels of baseball.
A Unique Learning Opportunity
The ASMI–MLB Baseball Medicine Workshop is built to provide attendees with direct access to industry-leading expertise. Participants will engage with experienced clinicians, researchers, and professional baseball medical staff, gaining insights that extend far beyond the classroom.
Workshops like this are invaluable because they expose emerging professionals to the complexities of baseball-specific care. From injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies to performance optimization and return-to-play decision-making, attendees will explore the multifaceted demands of working in professional baseball.
The partnership between MLB and ASMI ensures that the curriculum is both evidence-based and practically relevant. ASMI, widely recognized for its leadership in orthopedic and sports medicine research, brings decades of scientific expertise, while MLB contributes real-world insight from across its clubs and player development systems.
Bridging Research and Practice
One of the defining strengths of the ASMI–MLB collaboration is its emphasis on translating research into actionable practice. In baseball, where injury trends and workload management are constantly analyzed, the ability to interpret and apply data is a key skill.
Attendees can expect to gain a deeper understanding of how research informs daily decision-making within professional organizations. This includes everything from biomechanics and injury risk factors to rehabilitation protocols and long-term player health strategies.
For PBATS members, this focus mirrors the ongoing commitment to integrating evidence-based practices into clubhouse environments. Workshops like this not only educate participants but also reinforce the importance of continued learning and professional development across all levels of the game.
Building the Future of Baseball Sports Medicine
The long-term impact of initiatives like the ASMI–MLB Baseball Medicine Workshop extends well beyond a single event. By investing in education and access, MLB and ASMI are helping to build a stronger, more knowledgeable pipeline of sports medicine professionals.
