The Athletic Trainer – Professional Team is the primary point of contact for professional teams helping to facilitate medical services through current process/programs, sports medicine, and other healthcare needs. Works closely with the Detroit Tigers team physicians and professional teams’ athletic trainers to develop and coordinate HFHS services. Performs their duties under the direction and supervision of a physician, including the treatment of an individual for risk management injury prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, immediate care and treatment, and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injury or illness, or both. Placed in various sites for provision of services including, but not limited to, professional team settings, outings, outreach programs, community events and engagements, and HFHS sites. Effectively communicates with the health care team and supervises other athletic trainers and support staff as appropriate.The Detroit Tigers are a professional baseball team participating in the Central Division of the American League in the MLB. The athletic trainer will be an assistant to the team’s head athletic trainer; however, additional hours outside of the team for Henry Ford Health or the Detroit Tigers may be assigned. The AT will assist with processing team WC claims and medical forms, effectively communicate with medical personnel for the Detroit Tigers, and serve as a liaison for the team to Henry Ford Health. Previous experience with short-term and long-term rehabilitation is preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent required.
  • At least three (3) years of related and expansive work experience in all aspects of athletic training required.
  • Post-certification master’s degree in athletic training or a related field preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Clinical decision-making and reasoning.
  • Adheres to community outreach or school policies, including but not limited to NCAA, NJCAA, and MHSAA while meeting expectations of community outreach programming.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Board of Certification, Inc. certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) is required.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer (AT) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs is required.
  • Additional certifications and credentials obtained in health care (i.e. CSCS, PES, FMS, CKTP, EMT) are preferred.
