JOB DESCRIPTION:
The San Francisco Giants are seeking a full-time Physical Therapist or Athletic Trainer with rehab experience for our Dominican Complex. This staff member will be responsible for all athlete rehabilitation at our Dominican Complex.
Primary job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
- Effective clinical problem-solving skills (ex. identify and prioritize issues in responsive manner, develop and execute sound, innovative action plans, ensure appropriate results, etc.).
- Strong communication skills for accurate, concise, and organized oral and written presentations of information to patients and staff.
- Computer skills for effective documentation of excel rehabilitation programs and MLB EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
- Maintain ongoing documentation in which goals, progress toward functional goals, and medical necessity are clearly stated.
- Maintain open and respectful communication with co-workers, physicians, athletes, and coaching staff at all times.
- Evaluate, treat, and co-direct treatment for athletes for who are injured and need physical therapy services.
- Write and implement throwing program progressions for rehabilitating athletes and throw with them in coordination with pitching coaches and organizational Physical Therapists.
- Review organizational injury tracking report daily and contact associated athletic trainer on progressions of athletes’ rehabilitation programs.
- Perform basic administrative skills including scheduling, setting up throwing programs with pitching coaches, infield/outfield drills with coaches, and communicate with Managers on playing time progressions.
- Develop and implement rehabilitation protocols post-operatively as well as non-operatively.
- During Spring Training, participate in all physicals for the entire organization and flag athletes that may be predisposed to shoulder/elbow injuries.
- Manage full case load of athletes year-round (Spring Training, Season, Off-season).
- Assist in treatments, education and training of DSL Athletic Trainers.
- Determine when an injured athlete can safely return to participation and competition.
- Assist Strength and Conditioning coaches in establishing exercises and programs to promote, perform and reduce the likeliness of injury.
- Determine medical needs of athletes for diagnostic testing such as MRI, x-ray, referral to psychologist working with organizational EAP, etc.
- Remove stitches and perform wound care to all acute post-operative athletes.
- Build strong relationships with organizational Physical Therapists and coordinating rehabilitation programs based on information given by surgeon.
- Assist with off-season camps as needed.
- Maintain current awareness of general changes in health care and specific issues impacting the practice of physical therapy.
- Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of a physical therapist curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association, or the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association and American Physical Therapy Association.
- Or, Certified Athletic Trainer with rehabilitation experience
- State licensure/registration where applicable.
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Bilingual (Spanish)
