PBATS President Mark O’Neal today announced the winners of the Paul DeMartinis Scholarship program. The scholarships honor the late Paul DeMartinis, a longtime friend to PBATS, Major League Baseball and the athletic training profession as a whole.
In 2016, the first year of the scholarship program, PBATS received more than 80 applications from both undergrad and graduate athletic training students. Each winner will receive a scholarship to help pay for their college tuition affording them the opportunity to enhance their athletic training knowledge as they move forward in their studies and careers.
The 2016 winners include:
-
Rebecca Delahunty, a first-year graduate student at Daemen College.
-
Shayla Bolduc, a junior undergrad student at Alderson Broaddus University.
-
Alyssa Maurer, a first-year graduate student at California Baptist University.
-
Lauren Powers, a first-year graduate student at Northern Arizona University.
-
Shelby Martin, a senior undergrad student at Minnesota State University – Mankato.
The winners were chosen through a random drawing that took place at the 2016 MLB winter meetings in Washington, D.C.
“Pauly D,” as many of his colleagues and PBATS members knew him, will always be honored and remembered through these PBATS scholarships. His warmth and passion for the athletic training profession will never be forgotten. Paul was truly a loyal and trusted friend to all PBATS members.
PBATS would like to thank all of the qualified applicants who took the time to apply for the scholarship. And we look forward to honoring Paul DeMartinis in 2017 with another scholarship for athletic training students.
