Dr. Clarence Livingood Scholarship Winners Announced for 2025

The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) is honored to announce the recipients of the 2025 Dr. Clarence Livingood Scholarship: Kenjiro Shibuya (University of Nebraska–Omaha), Ethan Crawford (University of Maine), Emily Rose Smith (Texas A&M University), and Hana Mather (Texas Tech University). These four exceptional students have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic performance, leadership, and a deep passion for the field of athletic training.

“Supporting and celebrating up-and-coming leaders in athletic training is fundamental to our mission,” said PBATS President Nick Kenney. “These scholarship recipients embody the values of integrity, dedication, and future-forward vision that Dr. Livingood championed. We are proud to invest in their journeys.”

The Dr. Clarence Livingood Scholarship is named in memory of Dr. Clarence S. Livingood, a distinguished physician and long-time team physician for the Detroit Tigers. PBATS established this scholarship to honor his legacy and support the next generation of athletic trainers. By awarding a stipend to each winner, PBATS seeks to ease the financial burden of pursuing higher education and foster a pathway to excellence in sports medicine.

This year’s selection process was highly competitive, with candidates evaluated on academic achievements, leadership in athletic training, service involvement, and more. The selected scholars will each receive a $4,000 scholarship to help support their athletic training education.

PBATS extends deep gratitude to all applicants and to those who volunteered in the review process. The organization also recognizes the work of Paul Lessard, Mark Shires and the entire scholarship committee in administering the scholarship—a role they have fulfilled with dedication and integrity.

PBATS remains committed to expanding educational opportunities and removing financial barriers for students in athletic training. The 2025 winners join a growing legacy of talented scholars who represent the future of the profession.
