POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Rehabilitation and Player Health Specialist is a highly motivated individual responsible for managing the rehab and return-to-performance program for players at the Dominican Republic Academy. This role involves direct oversight of rehabilitation protocols, player recovery plans, and return-to-play strategies. The Specialist will ensure that each player receives comprehensive, individualized rehabilitation care, through careful assessments and programming thereby contributing to the Academy’s mission of developing athletes for the Boston Red Sox system. This role emphasizes a commitment to player development, injury management, and the implementation of advanced rehabilitation techniques.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Rehabilitation & Clinical Care
- Daily Treatments and Exercise Programs: Perform daily treatments and implement maintenance exercise programs tailored to individual player needs.
- Rehab and Return-to-Play Plans: Develop and implement rehabilitation and return-to-play progression plans as assigned by the Latin American Athletic Training Coordinator.
- Player Physical Assessments: Conduct physical assessments, screenings, and ongoing monitoring protocols to ensure safe and effective rehab progress.
- Rehabilitation Operations Management: Lead and manage all rehabilitation operations at the Dominican Republic Academy, ensuring alignment with Boston Red Sox standards and protocols.
- Player Education: Educate players on injury prevention, rehabilitation techniques, and proper training practices, including instruction on nutrition, recovery, and performance improvement.
Rehab Coordination & Communication
- Team Communication: Coordinate with the Latin American Athletic Training Coordinator on medical appointments and facilitate open communication across the rehabilitation, strength, and conditioning teams.
- Player Health Updates: Communicate rehab progress and health updates to the Latin American Athletic Training Coordinator and relevant department heads.
Technology and Data-Driven Rehab
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collaborate with the baseball sciences team to collect and analyze relevant data to support evidence-based return-to-play decisions.
- Tracking Rehab Progress: Use technology to track rehab progression and assess player readiness.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Care & Team Coverage
- Daily Medical Care: Provide medical care, injury evaluation, and coverage during practices, games, and other field activities.
- Collaborative Player Care Plans: Coordinate with team physicians, Strength & Conditioning staff, and other medical personnel to create and execute individualized player care plans.
Collaboration and Synergy with Strength and Conditioning
- Ensure alignment between Medical/Rehab strategies and Strength and Conditioning goals.
Player Development & Injury Prevention
- Routine Maintenance: Aid in player development by establishing routine maintenance and injury prevention strategies.
- Medical Routines and Protocols: Build consistent routines and educate players on injury prevention and recovery protocols.
Administrative and Additional Duties
- Injury Communication and Coordination: Maintain daily communication with the coaching staff and produce injury reports and monthly monitoring screens.
- Off-Season Coverage: Provide off-season medical coverage as needed.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuing education and Boston Red Sox professional development programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy or related field; CSCS certification preferred.
- AED and CPR certification.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in sports rehabilitation, preferably in high-level athletic settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Spanish proficiency preferred.
