The 2018 Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society Florida Spring Seminar found its way to Tiger Town USA in beautiful Lakeland, FL. The Detroit Tigers welcomed members from the teams that call Florida home for their spring training to their newly renovated complex for a night of education and camaraderie. Hosted by Minor League Medical Coordinator, Corey Tremble, with the assistance of Sr. Director of Medical Services, Kevin Rand, the seminar highlighted some of today’s most cutting-edge sports medicine techniques and sciences. With over 70 athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians from ten ball clubs make the evening a great success and one that was enjoyed by all.
The presenters took to the podium of the ’34 Club, the VIP lounge over-looking Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, on the evening of March 8th. Dr. Britta Anderson of the Detroit Medical Center was the lead-off presenter giving the attendees an introduction into osteopathic manipulative therapy. From there, Detroit Tigers Major League physical therapist, Robbie Williams, shared the latest research and clinical applications of blood flow restriction training.
Sports Medicine Fellows from both Henry Ford Health System and the Detroit Medical Center shared their knowledge of some of today’s most significant and applicable topics. Dr. Dan Diaz and Dr. Drew Cunningham presented on the latest updates on exercise and heat related illnesses, while Dr. Mohammad Jondy introduced the attendees to the use of diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound for the shoulder.
The group was fortunate enough to hear from world renowned Henry Ford Health System sleep specialist, Dr. Meeta Singh, as she presented on Coaching Your Sleep Muscle. The evening commenced with Major League Baseball’s Medical Director, Dr. Gary Green, updating the audience on a variety of MLB policies and procedures.
