Summary:

The Minor League AA (Binghamton) Athletic Trainer will provide day to day support in the assessment and management of acute and chronic conditions during pre-game preventive care plans, on-field baseball activity, in-game coverage and through post-game recovery strategies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Rapid identification of on-field injuries.  Immediate and accurate decision making following an on-field assessment: determination injury severity, ability to continue to play, and/or activate EMS.
  • Provide accurate diagnosis and determine immediate plan of care to include diagnostic studies (X-ray/MRI/CT Scan) and treatment plan to assist in recovery and safely return the player back to play.
  • Observe kinetic chain impairments through orthopedic screen and develop an action plan to correct impairments and mitigate potential time lost due to injury.
  • Daily communication with the Minor League Medical Coordinator, Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator, Performance Coaching Coordinator, fellow Athletic Trainers, Strength and Conditioning coach, Mental Performance Coach, Coaching Staff, and Front Office regarding player status.
  • Work alongside field staff, performance coaching, and other support staff to contribute to the design and implementation of objective, evidence-based individualized player plans to maximize performance and reduce injury risk.
  • Perform objective monitoring of players and make appropriate intervention recommendations based on the results.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention via manual therapy, corrective exercise, and recovery modalities to prepare players to play at a high level on a daily basis.
  • Administer recovery strategies pre and post-game to mitigate cumulative workload stress and expedite player recovery and readiness.
  • Educate and provide first layer of support in identifying illness and beginning the process of treatment to prevent potential transmission to others.
  • Collaborative and effective communication regarding day to day medical and injury updates.
  • Provide thorough documentation of all injuries/illnesses including daily notes, physician notes, and other required documentation in the MLB EMR system.
  • Complete daily EMR documentation.
  • Assist with management of all medical budgets as well as the ordering and purchasing of medical inventory.
  • Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of all modalities and equipment.
  • Routine offseason medical communication with players.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Eligible for New York state athletic training licensure.
  • 3+ years of professional sports experience.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple interdepartmental personnel.
  • Advanced knowledge in kinesiology, biomechanics, and anatomy.
  • Advanced evidence-based knowledge in acute care of injury and illness, clinical and on-field assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention modalities and corrective exercise prescription.
  • Ability to design progressive preventive and short-term rehabilitation plans for upper and lower extremity injuries.
  • Previous baseball experience.
  • Must be able to travel with the affiliate team.
  • Must be able to work unconventional hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Athlete Monitoring Systems and data interpretation.
  • Healthcare administration skills.
