The Cleveland Guardians organization values a collaborative, team environment focused on developing our staff members and our players into the best versions of themselves. We are looking to add to our Player Development team in the form of a full-time Minor League Physical Therapist who models our values and approach to providing medical care for our athletes.
The Physical Therapist will function within the Minor League System of the Cleveland Guardians at our Player Development Academy based in Goodyear, AZ. The Physical Therapist will work alongside the Assistant Director of Medical Services and the Rehabilitation Coordinator to support our rehabilitating athletes.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide evaluation, treatment, and design rehabilitation and return-to-play programming for a variety of athletes in the Guardians Player Development system at the club’s Goodyear Player Development Academy.
- Guide daily communication and collaboration with our Performance Team (Physicians, Athletic Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Dietitians, Sport Scientists, Mental Performance Coaches / Sports Psychologists, and Positional Coaches).
- Partner with Minor League Rehabilitation Coordinator to manage rehab budget, inventory, and treatment plans.
- Accompany and provide transportation (as needed) for players to medical appointments.
- Serve as the Clinical Instructor (CI) for the Guardians Physical Therapy clinical education program, which includes vetting and interviewing applicants, in-person clinical mentorship, and maintenance/development of clinical contracts with universities.
- Assist in developing injury prevention programming for athletes across Guardians Player Development.
- Complete administrative duties, including but not limited to, consistent documentation within Major League Baseball’s Electronic Medical Records System, physician correspondence, and weekly progress reporting to the front office via the club’s internal rehab report.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy from a CAPTE Accredited Program
- ABPTS Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) or Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) or equivalent residency training
- Emergency Response for the Athlete Certification or equivalent training
- CPR/AED certification
- Ability to obtain Physical Therapy licensure in the state of Arizona
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of Physical Therapy Fellowship training
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association
- Previous experience working in high-performance (professional or college athletics, high performance training centers, performing arts, or military settings encouraged to apply)
- Previous athletic training room experience
- Bilingual – Spanish speaking preferred
Job Requirements
- Fulfill duties as requested by the VP of Medical Services, Assistant Director of Medical Services, Minor League Medical Coordinators or Directors of Player Development
- Complete work responsibilities at the Player Development Complex in Goodyear, AZ, throughout the competitive season (February – September) and off-season (October – January)
- Relocation to the Goodyear, AZ area
- Must have valid US driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain or have a valid passport
