PBATS NAMES MINOR LEAGUE ATHLETIC TRAINERS OF THE YEAR

INDIVIDUAL MINOR LEAGUES ANNOUNCE ATHLETIC TRAINER OF THE YEAR

BALTIMORE, Md. – President Richie Bancells of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) announced the winners of the Athletic Trainers of the Year Awards for the 2013 baseball season. These awards are given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League.  An additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year.

“I am so proud to announce these hard working individuals as PBATS’ Minor League Athletic Trainers of the Year,” Bancells said. “These 18 athletic trainers stood out in 2013 as the best in their respective leagues, and I am so honored that they all showed the dedication and professionalism it takes to keep their players on the field. These fine gentlemen represent the bright future that lies ahead for PBATS.”

All 16 league winners, the Dominican Summer League winner and the Minor League Coordinator of the Year will now be eligible for the prestigious Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award voted upon by the full membership of PBATS, and will be awarded at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.

Also awarded at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings will be the Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year. Jeff Porter and Jim Lovell of the Atlanta Braves took home the award last year. Like the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award, the award is voted on by the full membership of PBATS.

Bancells has served as president of PBATS since 2007. He is the head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Orioles, a position he has held for over 20 years.
