- Gene Monahan, 61, has spent his entire 46-year athletic training career in the New York Yankeess organization, including 36 years as head athletic trainer. Before his promotion to the New York Yankees’ parent club in 1973, Monahan worked for Minor League teams in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Columbus, Ohio, Binghamton, N.Y. and Syracuse, N.Y. AFt. Lauderdale, Fla., native, Monahan served as American League athletic trainer for the 1977, 1986, 1992 and 2003 MLB All-Star Games and toured Japan with a team of MLB All-Stars in 1990. He is chairman of the PBATS Scholarship Committee and served as a member of the NATA Public Relations Committee, he has since completed his tenure. Monahan and his assistant, Steve Donohue, were honored with the annual "MLB Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award" in 1990. Monahan is an active supporter of "The Checkered Ball" of Charlotte, N.C., which specializes in spine and head trauma. Also, in addition to the "Checkered Ball" program, Nascar Nextel Cup Racing will remain his main interest off the field. He also Enjoys Listening to country and classical music. A resident of Hackensack, N.J., Monahan is the father of two daughters, Kelley and Amanda.

- Steve Donohue, 53, has been treating the injuries of professional athletes since high school. During his high school days in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Donohue served as a student athletic trainer for the New York Jets, and he continued to assist the NFL team for four years. A University of Louisville alum, Donohue joined the Yankees’ Minor League organization after graduation, working with affiliates in West Haven, Nashville, and Columbus. He was promoted to the Yankees’ Major League club in 1986. Donohue sits on the MLB Medical Advisory Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee, and is a member of the Research Grant Committee of The Medical Advisory Board. A member of the NATA and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association, Donohue also authors the annual PBATS Confidential Directory. A certified Emergency Medical Technician volunteers at his local ambulance corp. Donohue and his wife, Paula, have two daughters, Shannon and Margaret.
