Kevin Rand

Kevin Rand, 50, is in his 8th season as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Detroit Tigers. Prior to joining Detroit, Rand was an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Montreal Expos in 2002 and the Florida Marlins from 1993 to 2001. He served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the American League at the 2005 All-Star Game. In 2006, Rand was named as part of the PBATS Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year. A native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Rand was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. He began his career with the New York Yankees organization as the Athletic Trainer of the Class A Ft. Lauderdale Yankees in 1982. In 1985, he was elevated to the Class AA Albany-Colonie Yankees and the Class AAA Columbus Clippers the following season. In 1989, Rand began a four-year stint as the Yankees’ Minor League head athletic trainer/rehabilitation supervisor. He also served as athletic trainer for La Guaira in the Venezuelan Winter League in 1987 and Caimanes in the Dominican Winter League in 1985. Rand served as the American League head trainer representative of the PBATS Executive Committee from 2004-2009 and is a certified member of the NATA and the NSCA. He and his wife, Tisa, have four sons, Keegan, Kamden, Kallen, and Kashton. They live in Lakeland, Fla.

Steve Carter
Position: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Steve Carter, 49, went from the classroom to the training room. After receiving an undergraduate degree in health education from Indiana University in 1986, Carter accepted a teacher/trainer position at Central High School in Evansville, Ind. The Elkhart, Ind., native joined the Tigers’ organization in 1989, working with the Class A team in Fayetteville, N.C.. During the 1991 and 1992 seasons, he worked with the Class A club in Lakeland, Fla., before taking the athletic trainer post with Class AAA Toledo in 1993. Carter was promoted to the major league club in 1995. Carter was the American League Asst. Athletic Trainer for the 2005 MLB All-Star Game in Detroit. Carter was also named the American League Asst. Trainer rep on the PBATS Executive Board in 2005.While serving as an Atletic Trainer at Evansville Central HS, Carter was an athletic trainer for the Indiana High School All-Star Baseball Game in 1987, the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Track and Field Trials in 1988. Off Season employment has included, University of Evansville basketball team from 1989-90 and Atletic Trainer for Webber College in 1991. Carter has two children, Delaney and Sean, and lives in Sterling Heights, Mich.

Douglas Teter
Position: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Doug Teter, 35, is entering his 3rd year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Detroit Tigers follwing 13 years in the Minor League system. He joined the Tigers’ Organization with the Fayetteville, NC affiliate (1993), moved on to Jamestown, NY (1994), and worked two years with the Lakeland Tigers (1995-1996). After serving two years as Rehabilitation Coord. (1997-1998), he was given the Minor League Medical Coordinator position that he held until 2006. Named Dwight Lowry Player Development Man of the Year in 2001. A native of Constantine, MI, Doug currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Joya and three sons Zachary, Deacon, and Matthew.
