PBATS announces that they are now accepting applications for the 2010 Season.
PBATS is the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society. Every year they offer students majoring in athletic training the opportunity to apply for internships with major and minor league baseball clubs throughout the country. This internship is a non-salaried, non-staffed, non-benefit position. All expenses related to the internship (housing, meals, transportation, etc.) are borne by the student.
The program shall be one that provides an educational experience for the student primarily through the observation of techniques in injury evaluation, treatment and preventative techniques of athletic injuries by the supervising athletic trainer.
Actual hands on experience and treatment of athletes will be performed only with the approval and under the direct supervision of the NATA certified athletic trainer assigned to the ball club as that athletic trainer feels the intern can safely handle.
The intern is never to render treatment, suggest treatment or vary the treatment prescribed by any of the team physicians or athletic trainers.
The spirit of this program is meant to be an education experience, learning those duties and techniques specific to the athletic trainer in baseball. The length of the internship and the opportunity to get more involved in actual athletic training room activities will be held solely at the discretion of the supervising ATC.
