Gentleman. I wrote an entry this morning and deleted it and decided to go back to basics. Hydration is one of the things I strongly believe in and wanted to write about it. I described some injuries yet kept going back to water intake so I changes the entry. Hydration can be overlooked during the busy days of spring and summer and must be addressed. Flying in a airplane terribly dehydrates people due to the re circulated air. Alcohol consumption is a major factor in dehydration as well. Tobacco products are common and need to be avoided to keep athletes hydrated. I cannot battle all of these factors with just putting water at every station. The main weapon I have in this fight is education. Pbats is an educational society and here is a prime example of how it works. I can push water intake all day but if other factors come into play off the field, I lose. I attack this in another way. I try to identify some of the athletes that can use my help and then try to introduce ideas . If a player uses tobacco I try to get him to cut back. If a player is educated and then sees results, he will be more willing to go the extra step in improving his game. When he feels better he performs better and that may lead him into doing more. The only way people respond to these things is personal experiences .I hope that the younger trainers take this to heart and use the education factor to their benefit. Keep your athletes hydrated and I promise you they will be healthier all year…Enjoy
