ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim dedicated their athletic training room to long-time team physician Dr. Lewis Yocum Sunday. The whole team, field staff, athletic training staff, and select front office personnel gathered in the training room as Dr. Yocum and his family accepted the honor.
A plaque labeled “Dr. Lewis Yocum Athletic Training Room” was hung by Jered Weaver above the opening to the athletic training room. Long-time Angels athletic trainer Rick Smith gave a quick speech about what Dr. Yocum has meant to the team.
“It was an honor to give such a well-deserving man this tribute,” Smith said. “He has meant so much to this organization, as well as every player that has walked through these training room doors.”
Dr. Yocum is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in sports medicine. He earned his medical doctorate at the University of Illinois, after which he completed both his internship and residency at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Dr. Yocum was named a PBATS Honorary Member in Las Vegas at the 2008 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings.
